Core Beliefs & Theology

  • Jesus-Centered: The movement focuses on the supremacy and lordship of Jesus Christ above all.
  • Holiness Tradition: Strongly rooted in Wesleyan holiness theology, they believe the Holy Spirit sanctifies believers, enabling them to live a holy life set apart for God.
  • Biblical Authority: They adhere to the Bible as their rule of faith and practice rather than written creeds.
  • No Formal Membership: The movement believes that true salvation makes one a member of the church, thus they do not typically have formal church membership rolls.
  • Ordinances: Practice three main ordinances: Baptism (by immersion), the Lord’s Supper, and feet washing.
  • Christian Unity: They are committed to the visible unity of all Christians, viewing the church as a single, united community rather than a collection of denominations.

Key Distinctions

  • Theology of Regeneration: Emphasizes a “born-again” experience and believes in a second work of grace (sanctification).
  • Women in Ministry: They encourage and ordain women in ministry roles.
  • Worldwide Mission: Focus on global mission, discipleship, and evangelism.
  • Support for the Less Fortunate: Emphasize generosity, care for the poor, and social responsibility rather than prosperity theology.
  • Divine Healing: Believe in God’s power to heal, often practicing anointing with oil and prayer.
